MA 201 & MA 201A
PROGRAM INFORMATION
College of the Redwoods Adult & Community Education offers training to become a Certified Medical Assistant. This noncredit class in a Hybrid format online with in-class labs includes clinical rotation at a local medical office. Front and back Office Medical Assistant skills will be covered in an interactive classroom format.
Medical Assisting program includes:
- Venipuncture and Injection Certification
- Medical Terminology
- Front and Back Office Procedures
- Clinical Experience at a Local Healthcare Facility
- CPR Certification
- First Aid
- Perform Finger-stick Lab Tests and Urinalysis
- Identify Principles of Pharmacology
- Textbooks, 3 Uniforms & Stethoscope
- Job Preparation Skills
- National Certified Medical Assistant Exam
Online Informational Meeting (not required, but highly recommended:

Attending the informational meeting a chance to learn about the program, the application process, meet the instructor and staff, and ask questions. Even though this is a free program, there are additional fees that will be presented in this meeting.

Program & Externship Dates: January 21, 2025 - May 16th, 2025
168 hours lecture, 84 hours lab and 144 hours clinical externship required.
- Lecture: online, via Zoom; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9a-10a
- Labs: in person, Mondays and Wednesdays from 9a-5p. Includes some lecture hours
*Although minimal, the class requirements and schedule are subject to change
Class Limit: 16

-Photos of applications will not be accepted.
You must be age 18 or older to enroll in the program
You must also apply to be a College of the Redwoods student (Admissions > Admissions Home > 1-Apply (jmswierski.com) If you are currently taking classes, you do not have to apply
High School Transcript or GED not required to apply to the program.
Accepted students will be enrolled in the following two (2) classes:
- MA 201 - Classroom & Labs
- MA 201A - Externship
